After Positive result against Kansas the Spirit look to continue momentum

With seeing the team coming together and getting a 4-0 victory against Kansas City at Audi Field, the Washington Spirit look to carry that momentum on Wenesday and face a though Louisville squad.

This is the second test against Louisville for the ladies and now getting to face them at Audi Field where the team does well traditionally.

Against Racing in the Washington D.C. area the ladies have a 3-0-3 mark. On October 2024 was one of the more memorable moments for the squad as the ladies played to a 4-1 victory.

Getting back to the Kansas City match, that was one where the fans got to see a breakout performance from Midfielder Leicy Santos.

Santos also playing with the Columbia Women’s team is putting in some of her best efforts and that is going to be huge for the team as the NWSL season progresses.

“It is a hard league (the NWSL) and very competitive every match is different,” Leicy said during the team’s Zoom information session today. “Playing well against Kansas City gives me motivation to do well against Louisville, as well as being happy and excited to play and perform the best I can.”

The Midfielder was recently nominated for the Lauren Holiday Impact Award for her work in the community and reflected on that by saying, “I am thankful for being nominated! The fund is to help kids and those that are in vulnerable areas in Columbia.” When it comes time for some of the things her fund does to make an impact Santos had this to say, “So far we have been able to help with food, sports and soccer and psychological help as well and that makes me very happy.”

There is a big difference between going against Louisville and Kansas City and that was something Santos said during the session today, “In terms of the match the style of play is very different in what they are doing. Lousivlle is a great team especially in the long ball and recovering the rebounds. Am going to adjust some things to defend that and take advantage of any situation that I can get to score.”

As of right now the Spirit are in Sixth Place in the NWSL standings and with every match that they play well in give themselves a chance to improve in the rankings.

The Spirit and Louisville match is to be played on 4/29/26 at 7:00 pm.
