Things are always about learning and becoming the best team that they can be, so on Wednesday night with the result against Denver that is ultimately what was experienced.
In some of the good news for the team, they were able to continue to give some of the newer ladies on the roster those moments that are going to be needed to help the team as a whole be the best product that they can be.
With Denver being able to maintain possession, with being able to gain themselves good scoring opportunities and capitalizing on Gotham’s mistakes to gain the franchise’s first ever victory, by the score of 2-0.
Scoring for the visiting side in Head Coach Nick Cushing’s return to the NYC area (in a way) was Melissa Kössler and Tash Flint.
Anyone that follows MLS remembers Coach Cushing and the work he did with the New York City FC, as he led the team to the 2022 Eastern Conference Final Run, two playoff appearances and is a key in the team winning the MLS Cup in 2021.
We have the following thoughts from Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós along with Savannah McCaskill and Jess Carter after the match v Denver…video is compliments of Gotham FC:

This time Cushing and his squad were able to play well against Gotham and in the third match of the year.
For most of the First Half of the match it was all about possession and there was a stellar defensive performance shown by both squads.
It wasn’t until the second half that things went in favor of Gotham FC.
Some of the interesting facts from the Gotham FC PR Department include:
Midfielder Sofia Cook and forward Andrea Kitahata made the first NWSL starts. Carter got to wear the captains’ armband for the third time.
Some of the good news for today is the fact that the team won’t have very long to think about how things happened as they have to prepare for and train for the next match against Orlando happening on Sunday, with things being scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
