What is about to be read next is not going to be of the trational journalism article. This is coming right from the heart and mind from the person that is in the byline.
After watching Gotham FC win the 2025 NWSL Championship in San Jose, it was a quick turnaround for the ladies in making the way to New York City and for the celebration ceremony.
As the championship moments were being put together on the field, there must have been a flurry of activity in the New York City Area to welcome home the team that made history.
To think about it that Gotham FC was the team that was in the Eighth Seed and won the 2025 NWSL Championship with the words of Jayden Shaw and some of her postseason heroics leading the way.
When the final whistle blew and the ladies of Gotham being crowned champions, most had wondered what would happen in terms of a celebration including this journalist.
Then came the communication that the folks at City Hall were going to honor the champs and that they were going to have a mini parade for them close by.
This is the part when the journalism rule book gets thrown out the window as I honestly wasn’t sure as to how I was going to attend on that day.
This was a first in my whole career being able to see a parade and being at Citi Hall.
So for one day I put aside my journalism hat to attend, but I did want to bring the following into news form to continue the coverage of Gotham FC.
The day of the celebration itself was a lovely one. They (the folks at Gotham FC) had two tents in different places so for those that haven’t had the chance to pick up the gear of the team yet they could.
They even had the t-shirts from the team Championship on hand which I thought was a great idea.
Here are some of the sights from the parade and the ceremony and hopefully fans can enjoy the following:
As I was approaching City Hall I had hoped I was going to be in the right spot to be able to view the celebration, and when I saw the machines to release the confetti I breathed a sigh of relief.
While standing there tons of Gotham FC supporters along with some of those that were able to attend the ceremony in an official capacity were all walking around.
I stood there with all the rest and waited and watched the cars go by until the streets shut down. Then it was time for the official parade.
The parade itself was an incredible moment as the team’s official band Fogo Azul leading the way.
Then two Gotham FC branded double decker buses rolled by with the ladies on top of each one all taking in the sights from the crowd and the beautiful fall day in the New York City Area.
That had to have been some sight for the ladies to be able to see all the supporters and those that loved and encouraged the team from afar as they battled through to winning the 2025 NWSL Championship and at the conclusion of where the bus was confetti rained down on them and the people of New York.
Then not only I, but just about everyone there wanted to find the way into City Hall to see the keys being handed to the ladies.
Am thankful to have been able to find where the entrance of the seating area was, and be able to find a great spot to view the cereomony by.
It was a great presentation that Mayor Eric Adams put together as he and then several members of Gotham FC along with Head Coach Juan Carlos Amoros all spoke.
Right after the speeches the ladies had then gotten the keys to the City and all gathered together for a group pose and to be once again showered by confetti.
It is of all the moments as a journalist one of the more special ones I have ever had the chance to be around and then to watch the ladies, coaches and all that put together the 2025 Gotham FC squad all celebrating afterward was also one that is going to be one to be remembered forever.
As the slogan of the team says though Always Building and what is even cooler for the ladies of Gotham FC is the potential for a dynasty, but for now the NWSL is in the current offseason and the world of Women’s Soccer now has all eyes on teams such as the USWNT and seeing how the results of the International play are going to be.
The site is going to be getting back to the traditional coverage of Gotham FC and the various sports team, but wanted to share some of these moments with you all to show a different side of the site and the way things can be covered.
