It was a physical battle between Gotham FC and Racing Louisville, there was a ton of back and forth play along with some stellar display of how to possess the ball.
The Franchises playing with a ton of urgency on Sunday as an awareness of all involved with what the results that day would be with however the match played through.
With 11,219 all in attendance to see the ladies play and be in attendance as New York/New Jersey paid tribute to Ali Krieger prior to the match.
After that it was all about trying to gain those points for the optimal playoff positions.
Putting full offense to the Racing Louisville goalkeeper the ladies of Gotham struck first on a goal by Jaelin Howell’ at the 14′ gave the ladies an early lead.

Everyone in attendance was at the edge of the seats as the ladies continued to put chances on the net, there was one moment in particular by Midge Purce that many had felt was going to go in but just missed.
The visiting side weathered all the momentum and was able to find a goal in the 29th minute as Janine Sonis tied up the scoreboard. Later on in the action Racing gained the lead on second goal of the match by Sarah Weber .

With the supporters and fans in attendance giving all the energy they could to the home side, that energy was felt on the field and eventually a magical moment came from Rose Lavelle and her highlight reel goal to tie things up and eventually send Gotham FC to the playoffs for the third consecutive season.
The goal for Lavelle was the 20th of her regular-season career and some other impressive notes from the folks at the Gotham FC PR Department include the fact that the free kick score was the first for Gotham FC of the NWSL Season, along with the first for Lavelle in any competition. Also, the goal for Rose was the first since September 25 against Portland.
Some other milestones the franchise got to see were the 50th regular season starts for Purce and Emily Sonnett as they became the 12th and 13th players in club history to etch their names in that club.
Also a great sight for the franchise to see was the fact that the 11,219 fans is the sixth-largest home crowd overall and the fourth-largest regular-season home crowd in history.
After clinching the playoff spot and celebrating with the supporters the club as a whole got some tremendous news in the fact that they are going to face Club América Femenil in the semis of the 2025-26 2025-26 Concacaf W Champions Cup.
Before that happens the ladies have one final match left and that is going to be the 2025 NWSL Decision Day that is to take place on November 2 against North Carolina.
That day is going to be gigantic not only for Gotham but for all the NWSL as every match counts to see what team is going to be in what spot for the start of the playoffs.
