Playoff Bound NYCFC In Victory against Charlotte

There was plenty on the line for the Boys in Blue as with a beautiful day in the Bronx, people all filed in to see the franchise face Charlotte.

Ultimately all the energy for those that packed Yankee Stadium is the fact that they put all the energy on the guys getting three points, as with those points, they would clinch a spot in the 2025 MLS Playoffs.

As more and more people started to gather and with the guys putting the final touches on getting themselves ready for the game. The energy and intensity just felt playoff-Esque as everyone was all ready to support the team in the quest for clinching that vital spot.

When the introductions finished and the first moments of the match underway, it was the Boys in Blue being able to draw a penalty in the 11′ and that was converted by Alonso Martínez for the 1-0 lead.

After that it was all being able to contain Charlotte FC and keep them from climbing back into the match.

It was fantastic showing by the combination of the team’s overall defensive play and the fact that Matt Freese came through with some clutch saves in the First Half to get the guys with the 1-0 lead at the Half.

Freese just signing a contract with NYCFC till 2030, and continuing with the fine play that got him that contract extension. One of the best moments of the match for the guys was seeing Matt come through big time in being able to shut down the Charlotte PK opportunity that happened at the 69′.

After a cool down frame, the guys continued the stellar play and continued to be able to defend a very good Charlotte team throughout the Second Half of play. It was in the 58′ that the squad saw a penalty by Martínez scored for a second time and that was the goal that was needed to get them a spot in the 2025 Playoffs.

The winning tradition and culture for the Boys in Blue is something that is an impressive one as they have now made playoffs in nine of the 11 seasons since the birth of the team in the MLS.

Some other fun facts from the NYCFC PR Department is the fact that they were able to match the second highest win total all time in regular season play with 16.

Fans also got to be a part of a special moment, as they got to see the home debut of Raul Gustavo in front of the faithful crowd in the Bronx. Gustavo got his first ever start with the team in Chicago and he is expected to play a huge part in the squad as they enter into the Playoffs.

After the thrill of victory the guys were able celebrate with the faithful and now get themselves and reset for the next two matches.

The road to the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs is going to be a fascinating one is the fact that they get to host an ultra tough Inter Miami team at Citi Field, before going on the road to take on longtime rival the New York Red Bulls in the Hudson River Derby.

There is going to be a ton of intrigue for New York City FC as they take on Inter Miami on the 24th as the teams are in Fourth and Fifth place respectively.

That match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., and Miami is a team on a winning streak, as they just beat Seattle and most recently D.C. United.
