Even though the Boys in Blue had all sorts of momentum, they faced a stinger at Yankee Stadium by falling to D.C. United by a score of 2-1.
The loss was so upsetting that those that followed the team voiced the displeasure of the team’s results on various social media channels, as with the team so close to the playoffs and playing with such a great quality as of late.
There were a ton of positive things for those that are optimistic about the squad and things that can be built upon as the team now heads on the road to take on Chicago.
The fact that the guys were able to play well with the possession of the ball, the fact that they were able to play tremendous defense and they were able to get a goal by Justin Haak and these are all things that the supporters loved to see.
In terms of facts and figures were the fact that the guys had a 60.5% lead when it came time for possession, while D.C. United had a 39.5 %. The guys also led in shots (10) and Pass Accuracy (87.4%).
For Haak, the goal was the first goal of the season and is a great reward for not only one of the favorites on the squad but someone that the team is developing from the developmental level. As a matter of act Justin is the second Homegrown player to score two or more goals for the Club in the MLS Regular Season.

The only other player to achieve this feat was Andres Jasson as he had three goals.
Also having a contribution in the match was Alonso Martinez as he was able to be a part of the assist during the Haak goal, it was the fifth of his MLS career.

On a beautiful day in the Bronx, with the energy and spirits high the Boys in Blue definitely played with full heart and energy, they just were unable to convert on chances in the second half to gain the victory.
Scoring for the Washington D.C. rivals was Gabriel Pirani, as he worked his magic twice to show that D.C. United is going to be a team to watch for during the rest of the 2025 season and beyond.
Things are about to get more and more intense for the squad with the season getting closer and closer to playoff time.
Each match is going to be vital for the guys, as they hope to gain points to continue to build momentum, and the next match against Chicago is going to be a fascinating one.
Chicago is currently in 10th place in the MLS standings.
These two teams have met a total of 24 times with New York City FC having a total of 12 wins and also gaining eight draws.
There is a ton of excitement around the Boys in Blue with the arrival of Raul Gustavo to the roster.
It’ll be fascinating to see how Raul is going to transition to the squad, as so far, the team are seeing some great results from Aiden O’Neill and Nicolas Fernandez Mercau.
That match between New York City F and Chicago is going to take place on September 13, before the guys return to Yankee Stadium to host Columbus on September 17 at 7:30 p.m.
