Not only was that the last time the team saw a victory but the guys also hoping for a bit of revenge against the Union for a US Open Cup loss that occurred not that long ago.
With regular season back in play and an opportunity to continue to do well in the MLS standings on the table things were way more in terms of emotions and the results showed afterward, as the Red Bulls defeated Philly by a score of 1-0.
It was one heck of a battle as in the first half it had seemed as if things were mostly held in check by both sides of the fence. The defenses showed quality on both sides of the ball, as it was a master class in how to play the game.
In the Second Half it was when the quality of the Red Bulls came through as Dylan Nealis found the back of the net for the game-winner. That to go along with Carlos Coronel made an incredible highlight reel save for the three points.
Of all the moments in Harrison, that was one of the most passion and emotions that were felt. As the supporters of the franchise really allowed for all of the feelings that were within to be felt.
The booing and cheering and even some throwing items onto the field afterward of being able to defeat one of the longer time rivals.
For Nealis the goal was his first in the MLS, Sean is on a roll lately as he has contributed in clutch moments in three of the last four matches.
Some other fun facts from the franchise included the fact that Coronel was a part of his eighth shutout of the season and the 42 of his Red Bull Career.
The franchise as a whole got their 99th career shutout since 2010. In the positive momentum category the guys have the 10th MLS win of the season and that is tied for the most in MLS this season and is the most in a single season in franchise history since 2018.
Because of their fine play both Nealis and Coronel were named MLS Team of the Matchday on August 18.
The guys are getting back to training and work as they have rankings to climb and points to gain. Currently they are in 10th place.
What the next challenge for the franchise is, is going to be a road test against Charlotte on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.
