Red Bulls advances to Open Cup Quarter Finals with Thriller Against Dallas

Even though the weather wasn’t the greatest of conditions fans in attendance got to experience a thriller of a night as the Red Bulls and FC Dallas competed for a Quarterfinal Spot in the U.S. Open Cup.

Featuring a night full emotion, intensity and even seeing sparks of physicality the Red Bulls were able to a 2-2 tie and eventually went to PK to gain a 4-2 victory and now head to Philadelphia to take on the Union in the Quarterfinals.

Seeing the whole team play and seeing goalkeeper AJ Marcucci get himself a chance to start to cement himself as one of the top keepers, after all the work he put with the secondary squad of the Franchise, it was an overall special night.

Especially during the shootout session when it was down to that one final shot to make sure the guys advanced, it was Marcucci stepping up, making the big save and gaining the adulation of the fans afterward.

It was a goosebump moment seeing AJ standing in front of the supporters all chanting AJ, AJ, AJ as the keeper took in the adulation and returned the energy with triumphant arms and showing true emotion and passion.

Fans are also encouraged to view the following video as Head Coach Sandro Schwarz along with Mohammed Sofo, Daniel Edelman, and AJ Marcucci. Video is compliments of the New York Red Bulls:

The overall response and resilience shown by the guys is one of the better moments thus far, especially those that followed the team wondered how the guys would respond after the loss to NYCFC.

In regulation the team was able to see goals from Mohammed Sofo and Captain Emil Forsberg.

Sofo in the moments that he plays with the squad finds himself in the right place and in the right spot to score goals as thus far he is one of the guys converting and helping to lead the way in victories for the squad.

According to the Red Bulls PR department Sofo now has his third U.S. Open Cup goal of the season and his fifth across all competitions, as he now has scored in four-straight U.S. Open Cup matches.

As for Forsberg he has six goal contributions in the last three matches at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Thus far the guys are playing great in front of the supporters as they have a 10-0-4 record at Home during those Open Cup matches.

The team now heads back to regular season MLS action and are going to have a quick turnaround as they head to the Nations Captial to take on D.C. United on 5/24/25 with the start time of that match scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

After that the guys return back to Sports Illustrated Stadium on 5/28/25 to host Charlotte in a match that is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
