As Leagues Cup action started up on a very muggy day in New York City, fans of New York City FC all wondered how the Boys in Blue were going to do when it came time for going up against LIGA MX Squad.
Fans are encouraged to view our photo gallery from the match below…by 1495Sports:
Club Puebla a team that not many have had a chance to see on American soil was going to be a new franchise to face, with there being a bit of a rollercoaster that the guys are on it was going to be fascinating to see what form NYCFC was going to be in.
We also made this hype video of our favorite photos of the match:
It was Club Puebla coming on top with a 3-0 victory, though there were many close moments for the home side.
With Sports Illustrated Stadium filled with Club Puebla fans and the visiting side being able to dominate the possession for most of the match, all the momentum was in favor of the visitors.
New York City FC fans are encouraged to watch the following press conference video as Head Coach Pascal Jansen shares these thoughts after the loss….video is compliments of the Leagues Cup:
Juan Fedorco got things going for Puebla with a right footed shot from the center at the 2′. Then at the 11′ Emiliano Gómez added onto the lead.
Then after the half Owen González capped off the victory with a left footed shot from the center.
This was a match that NYCFC really needed to be able to contend for the Leagues Cup, and they are going to be in for one heck of a challenge if they hope to win this trophy.
Some of the bright spots for the Boys in Blue include the fact that they led in some of the statistical categories including shots 17-13, Pass Accuracy 81.3-71.9% and Corner Kicks 12-8.
Also, a huge lift to the team was the fact that they had several making the debut in the Leagues Cup tournament including Midfielder Aiden O’Neill, Forward Seymour Reid, Defender Nico Cavallo, and Midfielders Jonathan Shore, Máximo Carrizo, and Andrés Perea.
The start for Reid is the first one with the club and he is going to be one to watch as the 2025 Season progresses.
The Leagues Cup action is going to intensify on August 1 as New York City FC plays host to a doubleheader at Sports Illustrated Stadium. To start the day the guys are going to go up against Club León in a match to start at 6:00 p.m.
