On a perfect day for MLS at Citi Field, New York City FC was able to defeat the New York Red Bulls by a final of 2-0.
With a packed crowd and an overall incredible atmosphere both sides played well, but it was the Boys in Blue returning to the form that has captured them many momentous moments thus far.
The most helpful thing for the squad is the fact that they were ablae to find the net early on as in the 13′ Alonso Martínez got the supporters group riled up with the matches first tally.
Martinez thus far is getting the fans memorable moment after memorable moments, as the forward seems to find a way to contribute when the team needs him the most. Thus far Alonso has seven overall goals to go along with an assist.

Another fun fact from the NYCFC Public Relations Department is the fact that Martinez has three goals while playing against the Red Bulls.
After a tremendous defensive performance leading into the Half and entering the Second, the guys made the lead 2-0 on a goal from Maxi Moralez.
For Moralez the goal was the first of the 2025 Season, along with the 28th regular season goal of his career thus far.
Maxi always leads the team and there are moments while observing the Midfielder that he is seen sharing the things that he sees with his teamates which is invaluble thus far.
Other notes from the match include the fact that Midfielder Justin Haak was a part of an assist in the match, which was the first goal contribution of the 2025 Season.
In the cage goalkeeper Matt Freese, playing aggressively and was a part of the sixth clean sheet of the season. According to the NYCFC PR department is the fact that he is now tied with a career high of six that he set last season.
The guys now prepare to take on Chicago on May 25 at Yankee Stadium with the start of that match scheduled for 3:00 p.m. As for the Red Bulls they are in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup against FC Dallas with that match to be played on May 21 with the start of the action scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
