New Look New York City FC Squad Defeats Philadelphia 1-0

There was something different about the New York City FC squad that stepped onto the field in Queens, New York on a rainy Saturday night.

The guys played with style, passing the ball around and finding each other in open areas. From the way that they played and defended it was a completely new look for the Boys in Blue in the team’s 1-0 victory against the Philadelphia Union.

In a way it was the team that fans got to see during preseason play, and if they can somehow continue to play in that style boy they can be one to watch as the MLS season progresses.

The defensive effort by both clubs were impressive in the match, the guys of NYCFC had themselves an incredible performance and that included some acrobatic saves by Matt Freese to keep things to a shutout.

Then when it came time for the offense, it was a sight to behold as the guys were connecting and playing some beautiful soccer even though the conditions in terms of the weather were not the greatest.

Leading the way and scoring the lone goal was Alonso Martinez.

Fans are encouraged to view the following video as Head Coach Pascal Jansen shares these thoughts after the team’s victory against Philadelphia…video is compliments of New York City FC:

Overall the atmosphere and play was one of the best seen thus far in a very early MLS Season.

The fans on both sides were into every moment, creating a day that is going to be remembered for a while and showing as to why the rivarly between New York and Philadelphia is going to be one that is fierce.

It’ll be a fascinating thing to see what is going to happen next for the guys as they get back to work and training to get themselves ready to take on the New England Revolution on the road at Gillete Stadium in a match to be played on April 19 at 7:30 p.m.
