With the Washington Spirit getting ready to go on the road and balancing the fact that they have members on the roster being on international duty as well as those recovering from injury, there is a ton of things to take into consideration.
After the ladies were able to get a victory against Bay FC, they have a new challenge to prepare for as they take on Racing Louisville on 4/12/25 in NWSL action.
It’ll be a fascinating one as thus far the ladies have a 2-1-4 record when it comes time for playing at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, KY.
One of those returning players looking to help the team to having good performances on the field is Courtney Brown as she and Head Coach Jonatan Giráldez joined members of the media on Zoom to chat with them about the upcoming game.
Brown, recovering from a hip injury hopes to get back to a form that during the 2024 season, had her be a part of a rookie contingent that collected 27 goal contributions. Courtney’s shining moment came on June 23, when she scored the game-winner at Gotham FC.
That moment was a special one as that was her first professional goal, but then the injury came along and now she is on the road back from injury.
Being the first to talk on the Zoom, Courtney chatted about rehab on some of her expectations and more.
When it comes time for rehabbing Brown had this to say, “I think what I am focusing on is rehabbing it and feeling like myself on the field and physically keep up with the fitness,” She continued by saying. “I am looking to be sharp and hope to be someone that contributes to the team.”
With the team having some time away from the pitch thanks to international play Brown and the rest of the roster that had injury had themselves an opportunity to recover and she reflected on that by saying, “I am feeling good. The international break is great because that helped me with getting myself to be focused on getting back into health. I am hoping to play.”
There are a ton of moving pieces for Coach Giráldez, as he was the next on Zoom.
Jonatan spoke about a wide range of topics including how he is going to lead the team on the road; how he balances the roster with the international play and how he balances those on the roster that are returning from injury.
It’ll be fascinating to see how Coach Giráldez balances these things and brings his vision for the squad to life as the matches progress.
That vision continues on April 12 when the Spirit go on the road to take on Racing Louisville.
