Seeing the Debut of more homegrowns and earning a point on the road, New York City FC took a ton of lessons and things to learn from the 0-0 draw against the Columbus Crew in MLS Action on Saturday.
The Boys in Blue got to see the future of the club earn their first minutes in the match, as forward Seymour Reid and midfielder Máximo Carrizo were subbed in and made a debut.
For Carrizo he is the second youngest player to do so, while Reid is the youngest player to make his debut.
Shining in the match against Columbus was Mounsef Bakrar, as Head Coach Pascal Jansen mentioned that he would have an opportunity to present himself more and gain more opportunities with the club.
Bakrar almost got himself a chance to score in the match with an incredible shot in the eighth minute but that went wide of the cage.
In the goalkeeper position Matt Freese continued to make some acrobatic saves, including one to deny Diego Rossi prior to the whistle to indicate halftime.
New York City FC fans are encouraged to watch the following video as Coach Jansen and Defender Birk Risa share these thoughts after the draw…video is compliments of New York City FC:
It was in the 73rd minute that the franchise saw the debuts of Reid and Carrizo, as the duo became the tenth and eleventh homegrown players to see time with the franchise.
This is an indicator that the Coaching staff is going to combine some of the younger players along with the Vets in building a sustainable winning culture.
Overall gaining a point on the road, especially a tough team like Columbus is a good starting point, the ultimate feeling and goal for the squad though is hopefully to start gaining victories as well.
They can do just that on Saturday, March 29 in a match against Atlanta United at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. With the start of that match scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
