In what was an action packed Day 1 of the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament there was a ton of action and thrills all around as the world of College Sports rocked Madison Square Garden.
First up it was Butler setting themselves up for a Day 2 matchup against St. John’s University as they defeated Providence by a score fo 75-69.
For the Bulldogs they were led in scoring by Pierre Brooks II with his 25 victories. What was particularly impressive for Brooks was the fact that he shot 11-for-18 from the field to go along with seven rebounds.

It was the three-point shooting that was the dagger for the Bulldogs, as they had eight total in the night.
After that it was the upset of the Tournament as they defeated Georgetown 71-67.
The victory was a first for DePaul Head Coach Chris Holtmann as he was able to gain a W in the BIG EAST Tournament.
There were four players in double-digit scoring for the DePaul, but the lead performer was NJ Benson as he had 18 points.

For the finale it was the battle of the BIG EAST Conference East Cost Rivals as Seton Hall Took on Villanova.
The New Jersey based University had a great support group in attendance but are going to wait till next year to see how the program progresses, as they were defeated by Villanova University by a score of 67-55.

It was a thriller as expected from these two teams, as they both showed grit and heart throughout the course of the game.
Leading the way was Eric Dixon as he had a 19-point performance for the Wildcats.

The bracket is set for Day 2 of the BIG EAST Tournament as things are going to start with a thriller between Butler and St. John’s University, in front of what is going to be a majority of St. John’s fans.
Prior to the start of the day St. John’s along with the rest of the BIG EAST Conference were honored with awards as Head Coach Rick Pitino along with RJ Luis Jr got the league’s highest honors.
Coach Pitino winning his first ever BIG EAST Conference of the Year Award, adding onto a legendary resume of 881 victories to be the winningest active Division 1 basketball coach.
As for RJ Luis Jr. as he joins the ranks of Walter Berry and Chris Mullin in winning the award.
How great of a year did Luis Jr. have well he is the first Red Storm to average more than 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in a single season since Zendon Hamilton in 1995-96.

After that clash, there is going to be a great battle between #5 Marquette taking on #4 Xavier at 2:30 p.m. Then #10 DePaul taking on the ultra-tough #2 Creighton. Then to wrap up Day 2 is going to be a battle between #6 Villanova taking on #3 UConn.
