New York City FC Learning Details Matter in Loss to LAFC

Things are very early in the New York City FC Season, and in the learning and maturity of the guys when it comes time for the style of play during the course of the 2025 Season.

In the team’s 1-0 loss to LAFC the biggest lesson for the squad to learn is the fact that in order for them to compete, they can hopefully keep themselves and the focus on what the assignment is in the course of the match.

It was the details that were unveiled during the course of the night in California that ultimately led to the three points going towards LAFC.

The trend of paying attention to details is something that Head Coach Pascal Jansen noticed and is something that he is going to lead the squad with as they head back to New York and prepare for the team’s Home Opener against Orlando on March 8.

Coach Jansen already seeing the growth, development and how quickly the guys are getting acclimated to the different challenges that the guys are having to adjust too is going to get his team back to the training facility so that the team’s continued progress can be seen.

Paying attention to the details is something that Midfielder Keaton Parks also noticed as well, as that is something he mentioned during the team’s press conference after the final result.

Coach Jansen and Parks shared these thoughts with the media after the team’s loss in Cali….video is compliments of New York City FC:

Other than going through some growing pains, bright spots along with milestone moments came from the fact that Defenders Thiago Martins and Tayvon Gray made their season debuts, with Gray starting the match and Martins coming on as a substitute in the 75th minute.

Also, goalkeeper Matt Freese played and looked great after what was a scary moment in Florida, making a recovery and now playing in a complete match against LAFC and making four saves. Those four saves were something that helped Matt move along in the history books as he was able to match Sean Johnson’s all-time single-game record for NYCFC.

This also is the second match in which Matt recorded four saves, as he was also able to do so against Inter Miami CF.

For now, the guys get to go back to the New York Area and start the preparation and building the anticipation and excitement for the Home Opener against Orlando happening on March 8.

That match is to be played at Yankee Stadium, where they have a 7-2-0 mark in the home openers.

New York City FC is celebrating 10 years in the MLS, and are going to do so with a celebration happening on March 2 at Lavan Midtown from 2-6 p.m.

There are going to be a ton of great things to look forward too when it comes time for both on and off the pitch for the Boys and Blue, as the countdown is on to the team’s Home Opener at Yankee Stadium on March 8 at 7:30 p.m.
