Washington Spirit Training in Tampa fairing well as ladies continue to build bonds

After getting some training in the Washington D.C. market the ladies of the Washington Spirit are now in Tampa, Flordia to continue to train and prepare for the 2025 NWSL Season.

Two of the pieces to the 2025 Washington Spirit roster that are going to be a huge factor in the team winning matches are going to be midfielder Croix Bethune and forward Makenna Morris.

The duo took time after the team’s training on Tuesday to interact with members of the Media via Zoom and reflected on a bunch of different topics.

The Q and A session began with midfielder Bethune and her talking about her recovery from when she tore her meniscus in September of 2024.

Croix is balancing her recovery along with forming the bonds with some of the newer players on the team and had this to say on things so far:

I am not completely into training yet, but I am getting into things. When it comes time to being able to form bonds with everyone, with the players that we have and the talent and soccer IQ that they have, t’ll be easy for everyone to bond”

As to when it comes time for her recovery Bethune had this to say, ” So far the recovery is going great and I am trying to be patient and doing things day by day.”

Morris also had these thoughts when it came time for the squad so far, “They are great players on the field, they are great people, they are amazing human beings. When we were entering onto the team We had people that were mentors for us so we want to do that for the newcomers.”

One of the cooler stories coming from the Zoom session came from when Makenna reflected on the memories she had as a Spirit fan growing up and to be a part of the revolution of the NWSL in the Washington D.C. Market.

The forward had this to say on the team making more of a splash in the area, “I is exciting to see the growth of the NWSL and Spirit. I recall some moments when I saw people in jerseys and thought that was so cool. I am a Spirit fan but can’t recall them being in gear but now they are repping and wearing the gear and that is awesome.”

As for the preseason thus far Makenna had these thoughts to share, “
Group is doing well. Offseason is short but a good reset for us and things are going well. Happy to be back and happy to get after it.”

Things are progressing and coming togther nicely for the ladies thus far and one can tell during the media sessions that the energy and aura around the team is positive thus far.

The ladies are going to be training in Tampa till February 26, and then after that return to the Washington D.C. Market on Feburary 27 for training in the area.
