Close Call in the Bronx as Fordham defeats Duquesne

With seconds left in the game and Duquesne with a slim lead it was all nervousness and energy in Rose Hill Gym as the Fordham University men’s Basketball team (9-11, 1-6 Atlantic 10) needed to find an answer quickly if they wanted to get the victory.

Somehow or the other it was a three-pointer by Josh Rivera along with a huge defensive play that got Fordham the 65-63 victory against the defending conference champions.

Rivera was one of the offensive leaders of the game as he had a game-high 16 points along with six rebounds, and that was combined with impressive performances by Japhet Medor as he had 14 points and Romad Dean with 12 points.

It was an exciting game and overall experience in the Bronx, as the guys were able to snap a six-game losing streak with this performance.

Some of the impressive stats from the Fordham PR department include the fact that Jackie Johnson III scored in double figured in 19 of the 20 games this year.

In the last four games Medor has 24 assists and is a huge part of helping the Fordham Offense click. Inn addition Medor is shooting an impressive .864 (38-44) from the free throw line in the last five games.

One of the biggest keys to the game is the fact that the Rams did a great job on the rebounding part of the game, having a 41-27 edge against the Dukes.

The coolest part of the night is the fact that Fordham was able to be a part of the Coaches versus Cancer Suits and Sneakers moment, as the Coaching staff were able to wear sneakers along with the suits to support the American Cancer Society to end cancer.

There are some milestone moments for the Rams and Abdou Tsimbila as he now has 184 career blocks and 619 career rebounds.

Up next for the Rams is going to be a road trip to Philadelphia and St. Bonaventure before returning back to the Bronx to host Rhode Island in a game to be played on February 5th at 7:00 p.m.
