Red Bulls make it close but fall to Champs LA Galaxy in Audi 2024 MLS Cup

Going to California and playing in a tough match, the Red Bulls came oh-so-close to being in the match against the LA Galaxy.

In the end of the match, it was the West Coast Club capturing a 2-1 victory and in fact capturing the sixth MLS Cup in franchise history.

It was the Galaxy getting the opening goal of the match and all the momentum, as Joseph Paintsil was able to find the bottom right corner for the 1-0 lead in the Ninth Minute.

Los Angeles quickly struck in the 13th minute as Dejan Joveljic made the match 2-0on an assist by Mark Delgado.

The Red Bulls did not go down without a fight though as Sean Nealis was set up on a beauty of a pass by Emil Forsberg to get the Eastern Conference Champs back into the match.

For Nealis he became the first defender in club history to score in an MLS Cup match, along with the fourth defender in franchise history to score in a playoff match.

In addition another fascinating stat compliments of the Red Bulls PR department is the fact that Nealis scored his first MLS Cup Playoff goal along with the first goal of the 2024 season.

Even though the teams played a competitive Second Half of the match, it was the Galaxy coming away with the 2024 MLS Cup, triumphant in front of a hometown crowd and in their stadium in California.

There was a ton to be proud of with this Red Bulls Squad including the fac that for the first time in MLS Cup history they had five different players born in New York and New Jersey on the squad that started in the MLS Cup match.

That included Daniel Edelman, John Tolkin, Peter Stroud, Sean Nealis, Dylan Nealis.

Also, some other interesting facts were the fact that Nealis along with Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel are now in an eight place with Carlos Mendes in franchise history for most games across all competitions by a player with 146.

There is a ton of buzz and hope and optimism that surround the New York Red Bulls as they head back to the East Coast to hopefully celebrate the winning of the Eastern Conference Championship in front of the supporters and followers of the Club.
