MiLB recently wrapped up their Arizona Fall League, an annual league that brings together MLB’s top prospects for off-season games. The Yankees affiliate team, the Salt River Rafters, took home the title despite being caught in a three-way tie for second place in the regular league standings.
The Rafters, borrowing prospects from the Yankees, Nationals, Twins, Rockies, and Diamondbacks, took home their sixth title in Arizona league history over the Surprise Saguaros on November 16. Leading the way for the Yankees is prospect Caleb Durbin, as hes et multiple league records with stolen bases, taking 4 in a game, and 29 in the 24-game season.
Primarily playing second base, Durbin finished the MiLB season with the Yankees AAA affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Following his performance this fall in Arizona; the Yankees selected him for their 40-man roster as they navigate the notorious Juan Soto deal.
The Mets lent their prospects to the Scottsdale Scorpions, who finished the season also tied for second place. SS Jett Williams and OF Drew Gilbert shone as top players in the league, marking themselves as the Mets number 2 and 3 prospects respectively. Gilbert came to the Mets via the Justin Verlander deal with the Astros in late 2023. Both players finished the MiLB season in AAA.
The Arizona Fall League has hosted top MLB prospects each fall in Phoenix, AZ since 1992. The fall league consists of six teams, affiliated with five MLB clubs each. Each MLB club nominates four pitchers and three position players for the league every year, and the league culminates in an All-Star game in mid-November.
