It was a sensational night for the fans of New York City FC, as on a picture-perfect day in terms of the weather the Boys in Blue came back to the Metropolitan Area.
With a mix of nerves and excitement in the air, the guys kicked-off the Second Game in the Best-of-Three series, as all of the supporters brought the energy and chanting throughout the match.
As the backs were up against the walls, the guys displayed one of the best performances as a team thus far. Having a high tempo style that got rewarded with the team’s first chance by Keaton Parks early in the night.
From there it was all Boys in Blue as they were able to find the first goal of the night from a right-footed shot from the center of the box by Alonso Martinez in the 23′.
The lead got doubled by Thiago Martins in the 40′ as he found the top right corner on a header, much to the relief of the crowd at Citi Field. For Martins the goal was his first with the club.
Throughout the night the guys displayed a wonderful style of defensive soccer, as they were able to block a ton of chances by FC Cincinnati, it was only in the second chance that the visiting side were able to crack the code by netting a goal in the 65′ by Luca Orellano.
From there though it was an MVP performance by Matt Freese, as he stopped goals that could have easily won the victors the game.

New York City FC keeping the momentum going got themselves a wonderful opportunity and was able to cash in on a penalty opportunity by Santi Rodriguez at the 90+7 mark.
It was all the Boys in Blue and the team’s defense standing tall to lift the team to a big three points and a date in Cincinnati for the final leg of the series at TQL Stadium.
The guys were able to have themselves a tremendous performance in the playoffs, and an interesting stat from the NYCFC Public Relations Department is the fact that the franchise scored three goals for the first time in a match in MLS play since October 6, 2024.
Since the birth of NYCFC in 2026 they have played eight home games in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and the record in the NY Area stands at 5-3.
The guys play very well when it comes time for playoff soccer at Citi Field, as thus far they have recorded one clean sheet, and seven goals during the course of the playoff run.
Now it is going to be once again backs up against the walls to go along with a chance to advance to the Semifinals in the finale against Cincinnati to be played on November 9.
