BIG EAST MEDIA Day a Success and marks the start of a new College Hoops Season

Those that are fans and followers of College Sports season mark the calendars for certain times of the year, things like the start of Football, Volleyball and Baseball Season.

New York City is home of some of the great Basketball teams, and one of the best times of the year is when the BIG EAST Conference marks the start of Basketball season with the annual Media Day held at Madison Square Garden.

One of the most historic leagues is getting ready to make even more history and bringing a new energy and dynamic programming between bringing educational programming to all that watch the member Colleges but also a great caliber of both Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

With the Commissioner Val Ackerman taking the center stage, welcoming all in attendance for both the men’s and women’s portion of the media day, this year’s gathering is a special one.


As the league celebrates 45 years, the gathering of journalist for both the men’s and the women’s media day is one of the largest to date as what is called the new BIG EAST Conference is once again making everyone aware of how good they are.

With the University of Connecticut winning the National Championships in Back-to-Back Men’s Basketball Tournaments, the biggest question coming from any media day is how is each team going to do to and what can they do to grab a spot of going up against the Huskies for the crown.

With the pre-season polls unveiled as well as the Player of the Year awards there was a ton of positive energy and enthusiastic discussion as to how things are going to take place during the course of the year.

For those that follow the local area BIG EAST Conference Men’s Basketball teams St. John’s is going to see how they can improve with Head Coach Rick Pitino leading the squad in his second year.

The Red Storm is picked fifth and is going to see some new additions to the roster as Kadary Richmond transferred in from rival school Seton Hall University.

For those that follow the Philadelphia Area sports Villanova got picked to finish in seventh place, as they look to graduate forward Eric Dixon to lead the way.

As for those Hoya fans they are hoping to see if the team can do better than the ninth place finish that the poll put them in. One of the keys to Georgetown having a successful year is going to be the play of guard Jayden Epps, the BIG EAST top returning scorer with 18.5 points.

Then wrapping up the local BIG EAST Colleges is Seton Hall as they are picked to finish in 10th place. The Pirates welcome back Dylan Addae Wusu and Isaiah Coleman to the team for the 2024 season.

After the men’s session wrapped up it was time for the ladies to take center stage, and amazingly enough just days after the incredible run that the WNBA had with the cumulation of the New York Liberty winning the first ever WNBA Championship in franchise history; the future stars of the league took center stage in interacting with the media.

Getting picked to win the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament is the University of Connecticut as Head Coach Geno Auriemma looks to add to his Hall of Fame resume, as he is four wins away from becoming the winningest coach in Division I history.

Coming in fourth place in the BIG EAST polls is St. John’s University as Head Coach Joe Tartamella looks to Miami transfer Lashae Dwyer to add a new layer to the team’s offense. Coach T welcomes back Ber’Nyah Mayo to his roster, as the Guard looks to improve upon a season where she averaged 10.9 points.

The Georgetown Women’s Basketball team is projected to finish sixth in the final standings and is looking to build upon the season that Interim Head Coach Darnell Haney had as he and the ladies finished with 22 victories.

As for Villanova they are projected to be in sixth place after having a consecutive 20-win season with a 22-13 overall record and an 11-7 mark in BIG EAST Play.

Coming from a successful run where they qualified to the WNIT the Seton Hall Women’s Basketball team is projected to finish in eighth place; touch with Savannah Catalon and Amari Wright among many others returning to the squad; they are going to be a team to watch for that is for sure.

There is a ton of enthusiasm and energy surrounding the BIG EAST Conference with the 2024 Season Rapidly approaching, especially it was amazing to be able to hear all the different conversations that were had as to how the teams were going to show the quality that they are hoping to bring to those that are going to follow them.

The final countdown is on till the start of baseball season and the start of BIG EAST Conference play.
