Yankees Final Four Matchups This Season

There’s no denying it: summer is officially over. With two weeks left of the regular season, teams and fans alike are turning their heads towards October, marking the beginning of MLB postseason. Take a look at the team matchups of the Yankee’s final four series of this year’s regular season.

Sept 17-19: @ Seattle Mariners

The Mariners stand at 77-73 going into this series and holding second place in the American League West. Their first probable pitcher, righty Bryan Woo, holds a 2.38 ERA and 0.82 WHIP through his sophomore season. The Yankees tend to favor righties though, which is great luck as they’ll likely see three this week in Seattle.

Sept 20-22: @ Oakland Athletics

The Athletics will call their beloved Coliseum home for the final two weeks, and host the Yankees for an upcoming weekend series. It’s too far out to predict pitching lineups, but with the A’s 65-85 record this season, it’s hard to picture a tough trip to Oakland for the Yankees this weekend.

Sept 24-26: vs Baltimore Orioles

As the fight for the top spot in the American League East closes out, this series against the Orioles could be a determining factor. Whichever team takes the loss will likely be the top Wild Card. However, the Orioles are slumping, with a 3-7 record in their last 10 games, which is a positive opportunity for the Yankees.

Sept 27-29: vs Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates are riding the 5th spot in the NL central going into this week, and it will be the teams’ first matchup since a year ago to date. The Pirates’ star center fielder Oneil Cruz exited the game on Sunday with a minor ankle injury, which was described as “precautionary” by manager Derek Shelton. Given that he makes a full return, he would be a key player to watch in the upcoming series.

The Yankees are looking at a few key things as the season wraps up. DJ LeMahieu is still an unknown as he landed on the 10-day IL, with manager Aaron Boone calling his return this season “unclear.” All eyes are on Aaron Judge to lead the way.

Judge just smashed his 53rd home run this season, on pace for 57 for the year. Finally, the age-old question, can the Yankees hold on to the American League East title with the Baltimore Orioles as their sole competitor? Keep your eyes on the Yankees as they close out the 2024 regular season and fight for the AL East.
