In one of the more physical and intense matches that the Boys in Blue have played during the 2024 Season the guys were able to come back and defeat a very tough Club Tigres squad in the Leagues Cup Round of 16 match that was played at Red Bull Arena.
With Club Tigres playing host and in front of a majority of fans of the Liga MX fans New York City FC put all of themselves on the pitch.
The night had plenty of action from both sides of the fence, as the franchises showed a great quality and a great style of soccer.

Tigres got the attempted chances going with an opportunity by Sebastián Córdova, as he attempted a header that was saved by NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese.
The Boys in Blue saw Alonso Martínez try for his first attempt of the night with a header, but he got denied by Nahuel Guzmán.
With attempts galore by both sides it was the Tigres gaining the lead as team captain Guido Pizarro found the back of the net much to the delight of the 12,041 in attendance.
New York City FC responded in a quick manner as Maxi Moralez worked his magic in the 20′ to tie score.
For Maxi the goal is hsi first in the Leagues Cup, and he was a huge part of setting up Santi on the game-winner later on in the night. The midfielder also has a goal and two assist during the Leagues Cup
Tournament, as he was also a part came from the final Group Stage match during the match against FC Cincinnati.
The intensity continued to build as the night continued on, as both sides tried to gain the lead as Santiago Rodríguez knocked at the door to gain the lead.
It was Santi that got rewarded and becoming the man of the match with the game-winner in the 66′.
Thus far Santi has been one of the leaders for the guys during the Leagues Cup, as he leads all in goals scored in Leagues Cup with three overall goals, while Forward Jovan Mijatović and Moralez each have one for New York City FC.
The emotions and passions were high, as the fans in attendance were into every moment of the match expressing the displeasure at how the match was called for the Club Tigres side of the fence.
At the end of the night though it was the defense of New York City FC and Freese that got the team to the Quarter Final Round against the Columbus Crew on August 17.
Freese is a big part of the NYCFC doing well during the 2024 Tournament as he made six saves.
With the victory the guys were able to surpass the performance from last year’s tournament, as during that run they were able to reach the Round of 32.
Some of the other interesting notes from the folks at NYCFC PR department include the fact that this is the franchise’s first victory in regulation during the 2024 Leagues Cup Run.
