Sensational Showing for Gotham FC in Summer Cup Victory against Chivas

As Red Bull Arena started to get packed with fans of both the Bats and Chivas Women’s team, they were treated after a slight delay to an action-packed Summer Cup match, with the final score being that of 3-0 in favor of Gotham FC.

With this being the first clash for Gotham FC against a Liga MX club in the inaugural tournament, there was a bit of a delay before the action got underway as pouring rain along with thunder and lightning came through the area.

Fans of Gotham FC are encouraged to give a click to these photos from the rain delay and of the team huddle:

Head Coach Juan Carlos Amoros and Defender Maycee Bell shares these thoughts after the team’s victory against Chivas….video is compliments of Gotham FC:

In what was a somewhat amazing sign at the Arena as the skies were clearing up, one of the clouds that passed through the area looked similar to that of the Bat Signal as if to say the ladies were okay to come to the pitch and start the festivities.

After that it was a beautiful day for the beautiful game, as those in attendance got to get a taste of what international competition looks like.

This is something that is going to be a great test for the ladies of Gotham FC, as during the month of August there is going to be an International Friendly against Chelsea later in the month, in addition to the CONCACAF W Champions Cup during the month of September.

There was a ton of action between both sides, including some physical play but overall, the atmosphere and energy at Red Bull Arena was encouraging and positive.

Scoring the goals for Gotham FC as the ladies advanced to the next round of the Summer Cup were Katie Stengel recorded a brace and Ella Stevens scoring a goal and helping on two assists.

It was a radical moment for Stevens when she scored as after the goal, she pulled a special message from her kneepads in sending well wishes to Asst. Coach Shaun Harris and his wife for the birth of their second child.

Overall, the match was completely in favor of Gotham FC as they lead Chivas in ball possession (60-40%), shots (12-5), shots on goal (4-1) and completed passes (347-199).

There was also a ton of good news for the team as they saw Jess Carter get some playing time, the first start for goalkeeper Michelle Betos and midfielder Kristen Edmonds.

The Summer Cup fun for Gotham FC continues as they next travel to Kansas City for the Semifinals against Angel City FC for a match to be played on August 13. For anyone hoping to catch the action they can do so on the CBS Sports Network or Paramount +.
