NWSL x Liga MX leading to some great competition for both Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit

While the 2024 Olympics being currently underway, the ladies of the NWSL are bringing some great soccer thanks to the NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup.

As the franchises of the NWSL go up against that of Liga MX to see who the best of the best in terms of team play are.

When it comes time for the East Coast based NWSL teams Gotham FC and the Washington spirit are doing well as they are ranked First and Second respectively in the Group D Standings. They are in a Group that features Guadalajara and the Chicago Red Stars.

The Washington Spirit got the NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup going with a 2-1 victory against the Chivas Femenil.

Featuring several National team replacement players such as Jenna Butler and Olivia Stone and making their NWSL debuts. Also getting the first starts all competition were Heather Stainbrook, Lena Silano and Chloe Ricketts.

Helping to lead the way in scoring for the Spirit are Paige Metayer and Brittany Ratcliffe. The Spirit did well against Chivas Femenil in terms of stats as they were able to finish with 15 overall, seven on target.

Then when it came time for the meeting between the NWSL rivals Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit, the action was as always intense and physical as the ladies of New York/New Jersey were able to gain a 1-0 victory.

Leading the way for Gotham is Yazmeen Ryan as she scored the lone goal in the 62′.

For Ryan the goal is her first Gotham FC Summer Cup goal ever, as she converted her first penalty kick on her first attempt.

In terms of some of the interesting storylines coming from the match, and this information comes from the folks at the Gotham FC PR Department is the fact that defender Mandy Freeman and Erica Skroski for the second-most Gotham FC starts in all competition with her 93.

Getting the start in the Goalkeeper position Cassie Miller played very well as she kept her third clean sheet in her eighth match in all competitions.

The Spirit saw several moments to build upon as they continue the NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup Tournament.

The NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup Tournament continues for Gotham FC on August 2 when the ladies return to Red Bull Arena in taking on Chivas de Guadalajara with the start of that match scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

As for the Spirit they are going to wrap up group play as they head to City Stadium in Richmond, Virginia on Wednesday, July 31 and take on the Chicago Red Stars.
