Third Place Spirit now preparing for NWSL X LIGA Femenil Summer Cup Match

The Washington Spirit are playing a great brand of soccer as they are currently in third place in the NWSL Standings.

In the franchises most recent matches against North Carolina and Bay FC that ladies were able to pick up a win and a loss.

Fast forwarding to the match against Bay FC, the victory helped the ladies extend the road winning streak prior to the week of rest the team is currently on.

In that match the Spirit got to Rookie Makenna Morris got the call to action and with the start making an immediate impact on the field. Morris struck quickly for her first NWSL goal in only three minutes and 52 seconds into the match. With that goal Makenna became the fastest member of the roster to find the back of the net during the 2024 season.

One of the trends for the Spirit is the fact that the rookie class of 2024 are sensational, as all five of the 2024 NWSL Draft Selection are all trending in upward direction and finding contributions in the back of the cage.

There are some other impressive numbers for the Spirit as they are entering into the NWSL X LIGA Femenil Summer Cup Match. They include the fact that Trinity Rodman is ranked seventh in the NWSL in scoring with her five goals.

Rodman got her first career penalty kick during the match against Portland and is also ranked seventh in assists with four.

Also highly ranked in the NWSL is rookie Croix Bethune as she leads all in assist with nine. Bethune recently is listed by the NWSL as the Rookie of the Month during the June competition and is the first player in NWSL history to win the award in back-to-back months.

Antitime the Spirit play those that watch the team can expect for Croix to do something sensational. Thus far Bethune has appeared in all 16 matches in the season, having an incredible 1,318 games played from a possible 1,440 minutes while having five goals.

There is a ton of excitement surrounding the Spirit including the fact that on July 10 the franchise signed forward Rosemonde Kouassi to the roster. Kouassi is going to be with the team on a four-year contract and is going to start playing on July 15.

Up next for the Spirit is going to be one of the most exciting parts as the team is going to be a part of the inaugural NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup, taking on Chivas de Guadalajara on Sunday, July 21 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Chivas de Guadalajara is only one of four clubs that have won the Liga MX Femenil Title as they were able to win the league title on two occasions. As of July 11, Guadalajara is in Sixth Place in the Liga MX Femenil
