With the eyes of the team and country set on Paris the U.S. Women’s Soccer team looks to regain the formation that captured the imagination of fans throughout a nation.
Thus far the club is working hard in training building new bonds and connections with those that experienced the Olympic games in the past bringing in the new members of the team.
Getting the team going is going to be a warm-up match against Mexico on July 13, at Red Bull Arena in Harrison NJ.
Lead by Head Coach Emma Hayes, the 2024 roster includes eight players that were a part of the 2020 Olympics and 10 that were a part of the USA’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Tournament.
One of the leaders on the team in goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher is already bringing her leadership style and experience to the club. Naeher is a four-time gold medalist while also helping the team win the bronze medal in Tokyo.
Naeher along with forward Trinity Rodman sat with members of the media on July 10 to talk about the match against Mexico as they are going to be a part of the Impact 99 Legacy Match.
Prior to the start of the action the U.S. Soccer will honor the 20 players from the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup championship team who are celebrating their 25th anniversary summer of that historic victory.
This is going to be the first formal and official gathering of the 20 players from the World Cup Winning team and is going to be a memorable occasion for those that are fans of women’s soccer.
Naeher talked a bit about how surreal the moment of the 1999 team being honored prior to the game is going to be, as that team was a huge influence in sparking the career of the goalkeeper in the sport of soccer.
