NYCFC faces tough road test against New England

Coming from a huge Hudson Rivery Derby victory the Boys in Blue are heading to Foxborough, MA for a tough road test against the New England Revolution.

NYCFC are on a roll right now, as they also defeated the Philadelphia Union and Toronto, while currently in third place in the MLS standings.

This is going to be the second meeting between New York and New England, as in the last meeting at Yankee Stadium the guys won a 2-0 victory on April 13, 2024.

Leading the way in that victory were Agustin Ojeda and Julián Fernández, things are going to be a little bit different now though as it’ll be a road match and the 12th time in regular season play that the franchise has traveled to Gilette Stadium.

While playing in Gillette the record is 2-6-3, with the last victory in New England coming on September 2, 2020.

There is something different about the team heading into New England this weekend, they seem to be playing more of a team orientated style of play, with everyone on the pitch gaining valuable minutes and playing time while also creating some tremendous goal scoring opportunities.

A huge part of the team’s success is the play of Santi Rodriguez, as he is climbing up the NYCFC History books as he sits tied for second place in assists (26 in 98 games played). Leading the way in that category are Maxi Moralez (69 in 166 games) and David Villa (26 in 117 games played).

Because of the team’s fine play Hannes Wolf, Tayvon Gray and Head Coach Nick Cushing all got named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 15 and it is easy to see why.

New York City FC Head Coach Nick Cushing along with Forward Mounsef Bakrar share these thoughts prior to the match versus New England…video is compliments of NYCFC:

Wolf is an exciting player thus far for the Boys in Blue in scoring two goals thus far, in addition Hannes has several other impressive stats including a pass percentage of 79.3.

Tayvon is someone that always puts in a great effort anytime that he is on the pitch and is definitely a fan favorite for those that attend the MLS matches. Thus far Gray has a pass percentage of 78.5.

Another part of the team’s being bolder on the offense is the play of Mounsef Bakrar, as for weeks Coach Cushing has been beating the drum of optimism that Mounsef and his goal scoring ability increasing would be coming soon.

Fans got to see a bit of that in Bakrar’s game-winner against the New York Red Bulls and he is hoping to continue to build on that momentum in the match against New England.

There is going to be a ton of excitement and festivities in the New England area as it is Memorial Day Weekend and hopefully those in the area are picking up tickets to see the match to include that as a part of the fun.

For those unable to attend the match is going to be on the MLS Season Pass and to be played at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, May 25 with the start of the action scheduled for 7:40 p.m.
