It is going to be the battle between the New York Mets prospects taking on the New York Yankees prospects as the Brooklyn Cyclones (20-19) go up against the Hudson Valley Renegades (19-17) in a six-game homestand starting on Tuesday, May 21.
After being on the road in Bowling Green, Ky for a six-game stretch against the Bowling Green Hot Rods the Cyclones are looking to get back into a winning form on the field.
While on the road the guys had themselves a five-game losing streak but eventually found victories in the games played on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday May 19.
In the slump buster on Saturday the Cyclones were able to steal seven bases, as Omar De Los Santos and Nick Morabito had three apiece. Nick Lorusso, and Junior Tilien had themselves an impressive day at the plate by driving in a pair of runs.
Lorusso continues to be a Cyclone to watch for as in the game on Saturday he reached the base four times drawing four walks.
On the mound Pitcher Felipe De La Cruz went a season-high tying five innings of work in the second victory of the season.
Then in the finale of the Six-Game series the Cyclones hitting continued to shine as in the Top of the Second Inning Jefrey De Los Santos laced a double to center field to tie things up for Brooklyn.
Jefrey continued his hitting by lining a single in the Top of the Fourth. Some of the other impressive performances came from home runs by Karell Paz, Nolan McLean and Stanley Consuegra.
Consuegra is tearing the cover off the ball as of late, ans is leading the team in several categories, including 70 extra-base hits, 30 homers, and 102 RBIs. Fans of the team should keep an eye on Stanley as he is five hits away (159) from matching Alex Ramirez’s (164) franchise record for hits.
Some of the other milestones incoming for Consuegra include being four doubles (24) from matching Ramirez’s franchise mark of 38.
Brooklyn had themselves several impressive performances on the mound as Jawilme Ramirez fanned four batters in the start. In relief Jake Stevenson sat down five batters in 2.0 Innings Pitched and Justin Lawson struck out three batters in 2.0 Innings worked.
Thus far the Cyclones’ starting rotation is one of the best in MiLB, as they hold the best ERA for starting pitchers in the South Atlantic League at 2.74.
The great news for the team is the fact that they are returning home to Coney Island where they hold a 12-6 record at Maimonides Park. Some of the other impressive stat’s compliments of the Cyclones PR department include the fact that the team holds the sixth-best home ERA (2.32) in Minor League Baseball.
When the team returns to Coney Island on Tuesday those in attendance are going to see starting pitcher Jonah Tong (0-0, 2.13 ERA) getting the start in Game 1. Tong thus far is third among qualifiers in Minor League Baseball in ERA (0.86), along with fourth among qualifiers in MiLB in strikeout rate (39.5%) and his strikeout-to-walk rate (28.7%) is ninth…Tong’s 51 strikeouts are tied for 16th-most in the minors.
