With being able to play in the DMV Area one of the trends frequently seen while commuting around the Washington D.C. area especially are all the members of the military that frequent the local sights and sounds.
As the ladies of both the Washington Spirit and Angel City FC played in front of those that proudly served the country in what was an action-packed night of women’s soccer at Audi Field. It was the Spirit coming through with the huge three points and propelling themselves into second place in the NWSL as they have 21 points (7-3-0).
The ladies made several records with the match as they have a new club record with four goals and having the fifth-highest crowd in team history.
Scoring goals in the match for the Spirit were Trinity Rodman (9′, 30′), Casey Krueger (34′), Ouleymata Sarr (36′) while Angel City tallied goals in the 20′ (an own goal by the Spirit) and Sydney Leroux (23′).
Sarr has her name all over the scoresheet for the Spirit as she is a big part in the night’s first goal, as she found Rodman on the assist. The helpler for Ouleye is the second of the season.
Washington Spirit fans are encouraged to view the video below for thoughts from Interim Head Coach Adrián González along with Trinity Rodman and Casey Kruger from after the team’s victory…video is compliments of the Washington Spirit:
Some of the other impressive stats from the match including the fact that the six goals in the first half in the 26 minutes were the fastest goals to be scored in the NWL history.
In addition, with the victory the win is the team’s seventh, as that matches the mark reached by the franchise last year. The final impressive stat is the fact that the ladies were able to extend their unbeaten streak when up at halftime to 24 matches.
Up next for the Washington Spirit is going to be a road match against the Utah Royals at America First Field in Sandy, UT on Saturday, June 9 with the start of the action scheduled for 11:30 p.m.
