When it comes time for going up against the San Diego Wave one of the goals for the ladies of Gotham FC is to play and gain points, as the ladies wrapped up a two-game road trip the ladies were able to split points in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
As the ladies continued the offensive forward thought process that they had in the match against Houston for the second part of the road trip, they were again rewarded with some tremendous play.
Thanks to the team’s new mindset Gotham got the first scoring chance on a combination by Delanie Sheehan and Ella Stevens.
Stevens signed by Gotham FC on January 22, 2024, is seeing some great plying time with the squad and was able to blast a cannon of a shot that went just above the crossbar, but it wouldn’t be her last attempt of the first half.
Gotham FC fans are encouraged to give the following video a click as Head Coach Juan Carlos Amoros along with midfielder Delanie Sheehan and forward Ella Steven share these thoughts after the draw….video is compliments of Gotham FC:
A play that also impressed is when Bruninha connected with Sheehan on a header that just brushed the crossbar.
It was in the 25′ that the ladies gained the lead as Jenna Nighswonger and Stevens combined for the first goal. It was a volley from Ella for the first goal with the franchise this season.
In the Net goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger is coming up with some big time saves with the team as there were clutch moments in the first half with three crucial saves.
After the half the ladies kept the momentum going as Emily Sonnett and Esther tried to increase the lead.
San Diego would not go away without a fight as chances by Maria Sanchez got the momentum going. It was in the 64′ that the match got tied on a goal by Hanna Lundkvist.
From there the defenses on both sides stood tall as both sides gained a well-earned point.
The total stats of the match saw Gotham FC leading the way in shots (14-9), shots on goal (9-8), and completed passes (283-271).
With the new momentum and offensive though process gained from the road trip the ladies return back to Red Bull Arena to host the Chicago Red Stars on May 19 with the action scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
