Gotham Gets an Impactful Debuts in 1-1 Draw against Racing Louisville

On a beautiful day in Harrison, New Jersey the ladies of Gotham FC were able to play in a physical and tightly contested match against Racing Louisville and wound up with a 1-1 draw.

There were many positive signs for the ladies, especially when it came time for the statistical sides of things as at the conclusion of the match the team led in possession (54%-46%), total passes (229-196), and dangerous attacks (34-7).

Those that were in attendance on Sunday also got to see a bit of chemistry being formed between Lynn Williams, Crystal Dunn and Esther as the trio were getting really creative, creating space and somehow finding the other when it came time for scoring opportunities.

Another that impressed many in attendance is Yazmeen Ryan as she was able to create some stellar scoring opportunities.

The two squads weren’t able to find the back of the cage till the Second Half of play and only in the extra time of play.

It was Racing Louisville that struck first on a goal at the 90 +6 mark by Reilyn Turner, but after that there were some tremendous opportunities afterward for the Bats to gain the equalizer.

Thanks to the resilience and heart that is shown on the field the ladies were eventually rewarded as at the 90 + 8 mark the debuting Lavelle as thanks to some patience and a rebounded opportunity, she was able to find the back of the net on an assist by Ella Stevens.

For Stevens the assist is the first with Gotham FC and she is just going to be just one of many to watch for as the 2024 NWSL Season progresses.

It was shortly after the officiating crew decided to call the match a draw and the two teams walking away with a point each on a emotional and overall positive atmosphere type of a day.

In the good news for the ladies of Gotham FC is the fact that they are undefeated at home in the regular season play and in the last regular season home matches.

There were also some other impressive stats from the match including the fact that the franchises scored 299 goals in all competitions.

Another impressive stat that impressed from the match is the fact that Emily Sonnett completed 58 of her 65 pass attempts (89.2%).

The Milestone Moment of the match goes to Katie Stengel as she played 45 minutes to record 5,000 for her regular season career.

Fans at Red Bull Arena got many treats in the match on Sunday as the newest addition to the team and netminder Ann-Katrin Berger made her debut and put on an impressive performance with some highlight reel saves.

The ladies of Gotham FC get to open up the month of May at Red Bull Arena as they host the North Carolina Courage in a match that is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
