With a energetic and enthusiastic crowd behind them, it was a day full of emotions at Red Bull Arena as Gotham FC and Kansas City Current wound up with a 1-1 draw.
Prior to the start of the match the franchise handed the rings to the players and unveiled the banners in celebration of winning the 2023 NWSL Championship.
There were all sorts of feels in having to honor the team that helped a Franchise that went through a rebranding process, being able to play in a new arena and standing at Red Bull Arena with some beautiful championship rings thanks to the incredible product that is being put on the field.
The 2024 edition continues to show promise and potential for another great run in the NWSL and that is thanks to the play of new goalkeeper Cassie Miller. In a case of irony Miller going up against her former team in the Current, made several stellar saves.
It was the Current though getting the lead in the 17th minute as Temwa Chawinga found the back of the net.

Gotham FC tough showed a ton of heart and hustle as there were so many opportunities that fans at Red Bull Arena started to get themselves on the edge of their seats.
The opportunities started in the 23rd minute Katie Stengel that was saved by the Current goalkeeper AD Franch. There was a rebounded opportunity for Katie but that went over the crossbar.
Continuing their hustle in the Second Half, the NWSL reigning Rookie of the Year in Jenna Nighswonger showed some quality chances.
Thanks to the hustle of the team, they were able to tie things up in the 52nd minute on a beauty of a corner by Yazmeen Ryan to Esther. It was the Gotham FC Number 9 that found the far side netting much to the delight of all in attendance.
From there Gotham FC did everything they could to try to win the match, they showed some tremendous defensive effort along with some stellar scoring opportunities. At the end of the night though things wound up with a 1-1 draw.
Up next for Gotham FC is going to be an East Coast Rivalry against the Washington Spirit at Audi Field on Saturday, April 20th with the start of the match scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
