Energetic win for New York City FC in 2-0 victory against New England

As New York City FC took the pitch at Yankee Stadium on Saturday night, the team once again showed great energy and scoring opportunities and were rewarded with a 2-0 victory against the New England Revolution in MLS action.

Sporting the new 24/7 uniforms for the second time this season, the team played in the way that is inspired by the uniform as they showed hustle and heart throughout the night.

The man of the match even early on in the night was Agustín Ojeda, as he impressed with his style of play, with being able to create openings for himself and constantly kept going towards the net.

In the 57′ Ojeda got rewarded with his first ever goal with New York City FC and also his first in the MLS. Thanks to being able to find the back of the net Ojeda is the fourth NYC player to score and is the youngest to score this season.

Some other impressive stats from the folks at the New York City FC media department on Ojeda is the fact that he became the fifth-youngest player to score his first goal, and the sixth player to achieve the feat before turning 20 years old.

Assisting on the goal is Hannes Wolf, and he is another player that impressed with his style of play being able to penetrate the New England defense and getting the team into great scoring opportunities.

All fans saw throughout the rest of the match was New York City FC continuing to try to score goals on the offensive side of the field, and thanks to their efforts were rewarded once again on a goal by Julián Fernández.

Fans of New York City FC are encouraged to check out the following post-match press conference video featuring thoughts from Head Coach Nick Cushing…video is compliments of New York City FC:

Fernández is another player that is bringing the great energy to the franchise and got himself rewarded with a beauty of a goal in the extra time.

From there the Boys in Blue were able to stand tall and wrapped up the shutout in a thriller of a night.
Making some highlight plays in the cage is Matt Freese, as in the Second Half he made those in attendance jaw drop with his incredible vertical leaping ability. For Freese this is his first shutout of the 2024 MLS Regular season, along with his sixth shutout with the team.

In terms of stats Freese was able to make five of them, and that is the most he has made with the club with the previous record being four (against Chicago and Toronto).

Afterward everyone at Yankee Stadium got to celebrate with the team in what is going to be hopefully a memorable night and one to build upon in the Bronx.

With the victory New York City FC sits at 12th place in the MLS standings and hits the training pitch for what is going to be a meeting on Saturday, April 20th against East Coast Rival D.C. United.

Thus far the team from the Nations Capital sits in 10th place with a 2-4-2 record , and re led by Christian Benteke with his six goals.

The match between NYCFC and D.C. United is scheduled to be played at 7:30 p.m. at Citi Field with the fans wanting to catch the action can do so on the MLS Season Pass.
