Thriller in The Theatre as Top Rank as Foster upsets Nova

In what was one of the closest main events seen O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster (22-2, 12 KOs) was able to narrowly defeat Abraham “El Super” Nova (23-2, 16 KOs) for the WBC junior lightweight world title.

It seemed as if for most of the night the hashtag of And New was trending for most of the Main Event, as El Super landed some devastating punches during the course of the bout. At the end of it though “Ice Water” shocked many in attendance by standing strong, landing some critical punches and getting the hard-earned victory in The Theatre at Madison Square Garden.

After the fight Foster had this to say, “I don’t want to make any excuses, but when I went to throw a right hand his elbow hit the middle of my bicep, so it kind of tightened my stuff up. But it’s all good.”

“My rhythm was off tonight. It’s all good. We came home with the win, so I can’t complain. I’m a 12-round fighter and I know how to make judgements through the fight. So, he came on strong in the beginning, but I found my rhythm and his timing, and then I started picking it off.

“Navarrete is busy. I’ll take on Lamont Roach Jr. or the winner of Oscar Valdez vs. Liam Wilson.”

As for Nova, as he had most of the crowd at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden supporting and backing him, showed a true grace in what was a well fought out battle. “El Super” had this to say after the fight, “O’Shaquie is a great fighter. He did hit me, but I did slip {in the 12th round}. I lost my balance. I wasn’t hurt. The fight would have been a draw if that hadn’t happened. This is boxing. I know they probably think I wasn’t that good. But you guys see I’m a great fighter.”

“Hopefully you guys can see me here again. I’m a world class contender. O’Shaquie, we can run it back. Let’s do it again. If not, I can fight Navarrete or anybody.”

As for the rest of the fights, the folks at Top Rank Boxing brought the action as from the top to the Main Event the crowd was rocking. There were a few moments when one can tell that there were cuts on the faces and great punches and the “Sweet Science,” once again took center stage.

One of the fighters that were backed the most is that of Brooklyn-native Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington to become the And New NABF, WBO Intercontinental and IBF Intercontinental Featherweight Champion with what is being called the ‘Knockout of the Year” with his Fourth-Round victory against Bernard Torres.

Here are the rest of the results from the action-packed night:
Arnold Gonzalez def. Charles Stanford
Euri Cedeno def. Antonio Todd
Ofacio Falcon def. Edward Ceballos
Isaah Flaherty def. Julien Baptiste
Guido Vianello def Moses Johnson
Bruce Carrington def. Bernard Torres

The Folks at Top Rank Boxing are going to next be in action on Saturday, February 24 in Tokyo, Japan as Alexandro Santiago goes up against Junto Nakatani for the WBC bantamweight world title. They are going to then be in the Verona, New York area for a Featherweight Title Doubleheader featuring Otabek Kholmatov battles Raymond Ford for the WBA featherweight world title, in the co-main event Luis Alberto “El Venado” Lopez goes up against Reiya Abe for the IBF World Title.
