Team Effort Leads St. John’s Women’s Basketball to 71-49 victory against Loyola Maryland

The St. John’s Women’s Basketball (3-5) got to see a complete team effort in the team’s 71-49 victory against Loyola Maryland (3-3) in College Women’s Basketball action at Carnesecca Arena on Wednesday night.

Some of the impressive notes from the game were the fact that the ladies were able to get back to being able to distribute the ball, as at the nights end there were a total of 20 assists distributed. In additions one of the trends that the ladies got back to is being able to rebound the ball as they grabbed 38.

As for the scoring the team was led by Unique Drake with her 24 points on 10-16 field goal shooting, as well as 4-5 from beyond the arc. Jailah Donald played 27 minutes, while recording 13 points; Jillian Archer put up some impressive numbers with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds and Skye Owen wrapped up all scorers with her 11 points.

Prior to the start of the game Massachusetts Mayo was honored by St. John’s University as she recorded her 1,000-career point. Mayo also playing with the University of Massachusetts and thus far is making an impact in her time with the Red Storm as she started in all seven games thus far.

Loyola Maryland showed a ton of heart and git as they had two players in double-figure scoring as Kelly Ratigan led the way with 23 points and Lex Therien followed with 12 points.

The St. John’s University Women’s Basketball team goes on the road for two games before returning to Carnesecca Arena on December 10 to take on Rhode Island. Up first for the ladies will be a road trip to McCann Arena to take on Marist on December 2 and then they head to Leo D. Mahoney Arena for a 7:00 p.m. tip against Fairfield on December 7.
