The Boys in Blue are starting to gain momentum and just at the exact right time, as the 2023 MLS Playoffs are just about to start.
After the team’s 2-0 victory against Orlando City SC on Wednesday, the guys were looking to continue the momentum that they had.
With the franchise delaying the match vs Toronto FC on Saturday, things worked out quite nicely in the replayed game on Sunday as the guys played to a 3-0 victory at Red Bull Arena.
One of the more noticeable players in the game is Midfielder Andrés Perea, as he got the scoring going early with a goal in two minutes into the match. Then with all the momentum in their favor the Boys in Blue also saw goals by Midfielder Andres Jasson and Forward Julián Fernández, as the team got the three points and a clean sheet.
NYCFC fans are encouraged to check out the following video featuring thoughts from Head Coach Nick Cushing from after the team’s 3-0 victory against Toronto FC…video is compliments of NYCFC:
The goal by Perea is the seventh time that the franchise tallied the opening at home this season, with the team’s record standing at 6W-1L-1D when scoring first at home.
With the victory NYCFC is in the ninth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings, and with three games to go with more points on their side the guys can improve their spot in the playoffs.
There were a ton of first and milestones for NYCFC and with the goals by Perea and Fernández marked the first with NYCFC.
In addition, most of the NYCFC have been hoping to see forward Talles Magno gain more playing time, well those fans were in for a treat as he was able to make his first start since July 5.
As for Goalkeeper Matt Freese he has been tremendous in the cage, as he has been a part of three consecutive clean sheets in his three most recent appearances.
Up next for the guys they close out the month of September with a road trip to Florida, as the Boys in Blue take on Inter Miami on the 30th of the month with the start time between the two teams scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
