Playoff Bound Mystics bounce back in 100-77 victory against Mercury

With there being little time left in the 2023 WNBA Season the Washington Mystics (18-20) once again had a chance to control their fate and grab one of the coveted spots in the WNBA Playoffs.

As the action started in Phoenix, the Mystics were a ton more aggressive and shooting the ball a lot more.

That style of play helped to lift the ladies to a 100-77 victory against the Mercury and with a giant sigh of relief a ticket to the Playoffs.

When the WNBA Season started everyone looked at the Mystics and the type of talent that they have and projected for this year’s squad to make it to the dance. A day after the team’s latest rough news on the latest injury to Kristi Toliver and their loss to Los Angeles it is nice to have been able to see this squad bounce back.

This year’s 2023 Mystics maybe on their way to becoming comeback queens, with the way that they have negotiated the waters of having people out with injuries, them coming back and then them re-injuring themselves again.

Mystics fans are encouraged to check out the following video featuring thoughts from Head Coach Eric Thibault, Brittney Sykes and Natasha Cloud after the team’s victory against Phoenix…video is compliments of the Washington Mystics:

In the good news department though there are plenty of healthy bodies that are going to help this squad as they wrap up the final three games of the regular season and start the quest to the 2023 WNBA Crown.

They say that the Playoffs are a chance for everyone to start fresh, and with this Mystics squad having faced a ton of tough test throughout the year, they are going to be ones to watch.

Helping to lead the way in the Mystics victory against Phoenix is Elena Delle Donne as she scored 24 points, shooting 9-15 from the field, 2-2 from three and 4-4 from the free-throw line, while also adding a rebound and a steal.

It was Delle Donne’s Birthday on September 5, and her and the squad punching a ticket to the playoffs along with her stellar performance on the court is for sure one of her many birthday presents.

In the milestone moment for Elena, she was able to tie Kristi Tolliver for fifth on the Mystics all-time three-pointers made list with 194 total threes with the franchise.

Also having an impressive performance for the Mystics is Natasha Cloud as she recorded her second double-double of the season by scoring 20 points and 10 assists in the contest. Cloud went 6-8 from the field, 3-4 from three, 5-5 from the free-throw line along with five rebounds.

Here is an impressive fun fact as Cloud is just the third player in WNBA history, along with being the first in Mystics history to score 20+ points, 10+ assist while shooting 75% or better form the field, 75% or better from three and 100% from the free-throw line.

Stat Sheet Filler Brittney Sykes made some impressive shots as she wound up with 18 points on 8-15 from the field, 2-5 from three, in addition to having four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Rounding out the impressive performance is Shatori Walker-Kimbrough with 17 points on an incredible 7-7 from the field, 3-3 from three-point range, along with two rebounds, a steal and a block.

SWK as she is also known as also made a milestone moment as she recorded her 1,000-career point with the franchise, becoming the 22nd player to reach the milestone.

There are only two more games left for the Mystics in the WNBA Season, as the ladies return home to the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington D.C. to host the Atlanta Dream on September 8 before going to New York to take on one of the WNBA Super Teams in the New York Liberty on September 10.
