Milestone Memories for New York Liberty in 86-69 victory against Chicago

With the New York Liberty playing in the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Sunday night, there were so many milestone moments for the team as they had their 30th win of the season against the Chicago Sky 86-69. It is the finale game of the four-game matchup with Liberty finishing 3-1. 

Leading the way in scoring is Betnijah Laney, Breanna Stewart, Courtney Vandersloot and Jocelyn Willoughby as they all finished with double digits. 

“They have three dynamic guards on the perimeter, and they could put up a lot of numbers if you’re not locked in. Also, they are fighting for a playoff spot now it’s a really great test for us with a team that can be dangerous if you don’t allow them too,” said Head Coach Sandy Brondello (on the Sky).

Chicago struggled to keep up with Liberty’s pace and couldn’t make stops. One of the more impressive moments for the ladies is when the Liberty went on a 22-0 run from the 8:18 mark of the fourth.  

As for the Chicago Sky leading the way in scoring is Kahleah Copper as she finished with 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while Marina Mabrey added 12 points and three rebounds.

Courtney Vandersloot a former guard for the Chicago Sky played well in front of the fans in the arena, as she finished with a record-breaking line of 20 points on 53.8% (7-13) shooting from the field, including 71.4% (5-7) from three.

Sloot and her defensive instinct took her game to another level as she had the first-ever game of at least 20 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, five steals, and five three-pointers made in WNBA history.

Sloot and Breanna Stewart chemistry on the court is remarkable. The pair have 104 assists between them, as they have a great chemistry with each other.

Stewie continues to have monster performances for the Liberty, as she recorded her 19th double-double of the season for 26 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks. 

Jocelyn Willoughby scored 5 of her 10 points in the fourth quarter. Willoughby shot 60% (3-5) from the field along with scoring 10 points from the floor, including 66.7% (2-3) from three, making this her first double-double of the season. Rounding out the impressive performances is Laney as she added 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists. 

The ladies continue their road trip as they head on down to Texas to take on the Dallas Wings in WNBA action on September 5 at 8:00 p.m.
