New York City FC win Yankee Stadium Thriller over CF Montreal, 2-0

In what was an electric atmosphere at Yankee Stadium, New York City FC (6-10-11) took a huge step towards hopeful playoff contention with a 2-0 victory against CF Montreal in MLS action at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.

The match is a special one for the Boys in Blue wearing the new ‘Parks Kit), and with the squad playing at Yankee Stadium, magic happened.

The team saw the team putting the ball towards CF Montreal’s goals and creating more scoring opportunities for themselves. The chances the squad created eventually paid off, as homegrown midfielder Andres Jasson scored the first goal in the 30th minute.

For Jason this is his third career goal with the Club across all competitions. There were some other milestone moments for the Club as with the assist by Braian Cufré, he was able to tally his third of the season. Also recording an assist in the night is defender Birk Risa.

Playing in the goalkeeper position Matt Freese made several spectacular saves, as he tallied his first clean sheet along with a perfect save percentage in leagues play.

The minutes later forward Monsef Bakrar made the night 2-0, overall Bakrar played positive minutes for the squad, and it is great to see him rewarded with his first MLS goal of the season.

New York City FC scoring two goals is a feat, and hopefully a trend that can happen more frequently. The last time the Boys in Blue scored two goals in the first half was during the Matchday 8 game against Nashville, SC.

There is still plenty of time for the Boys in Blue to make the climb to the 2023 MLS Playoffs, and they hope to do just that by next hosing the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS action on Saturday, September 2 at 3:30 p.m.
