Tough Conclusion to UKG NWSL Challenge Cup as Gotham FC earns Draw against Orlando

The ladies played with a ton of heart and determination, but ultimately Gotham FC finished the match versus Orlando with a 1-1 Draw, as the two clubs played in UKG NWSL Challenge Cup action at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday.

With the result the UKG Challenge Cup run for Gotham FC has come to an end, but the good news for the squad is the amount of heart and determination shown in the match.

Overall, as a team they were able to tally seven shots on goal, along with finding new life in the second half of play.

All the action got started on a goal by the Orlando Pride, as they were able to score a goal in the 32′, as Messiah Bright finished an opportunity that was set up by Kerry Abello.

From there it was all on Gotham FC to try to find the equalizer, as there were so many close calls. The first came in the 41st minute, that is when Yazmeen Ryan tried for a quality chance that was tipped over the goal by Orlando goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse.

With some great back and forth action the next great chance for Gotham FC found their first goal of the night. It was on a beauty of a pass by Midge Purce connecting with Mana Shim, as Shim found the back of the net and tied up the score.

The goal for Shim is her first since August 5, 2015, and is a nice moment, as with the 2023 Season progressing more and more on the Gotham FC roster are gaining their confidence and scoring touch.

From there the final whistle blew and the night resulted with a 1-1 tie, and the amazing run that Gotham FC had with the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup came to an end.

The next focus for the ladies is getting themselves back to the NWSL regular season play, as the team with their 11 overall points sits in Second Place.

Gotham FC goes on a road trip as they take on the San Diego Wave in a game to be played on August 19 at Snapdragon Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 10:00 p.m.
