Big Road win for New York Liberty against Minnesota, 76-66

The second matchup of a three-game series between the New York Liberty (21-6) and the Minnesota Lynx (13-15) was the highlight game for Friday night television. After losing to the Lynx in the first game of the series New York got themselves a huge win at Target Center in Minnesota defeating the Lynx 76-66. 

Leading the way for the Liberty Kayla Thornton with her milestone moment of 1000th rebounds. Thornton has also become more aggressive on the court shooting at 50%. Jonquel Jones had another season-high game with 17 rebounds and15 points with an overall shooting performance of 67%.  

Betnijah Laney scored 17 points, Breanna Stewart tallied18 points, while Courtney Vandersloot showed her tremendous court vision with a team high of 7 assists. 

At one point in the game, you can see Sabrina Ionescu got fired up, as she recorded nine of her 18 points in the third quarter and closing out the game with the final shot.

“When everyone is moving in synced and doing their roles to their best ability, we’re a really good team and we showed that in the second half,” said Ionescu.

Minnesota Lynx Star player Napheesa Collier returning to the team after recovering from an injury scored 18 points, eight rebounds, and two assists after being out the last three games. 

“I think all of us had moments where we were a little late, and it cost us.” stated Jessica Shepard as she scored seven points and 11 rebounds as one of the leading scorers for the Lynx.

After the team’s latest victory, the New York Liberty gets to head back to Brooklyn after winning six consecutive games on the road. It is going to be a tough test on Sunday as the Liberty take on the Las Vegas Aces with the start time scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The game on Sunday is going to be presented by Empire BlueCross.

Liberty in the Community

There are going to be a ton of cool community related events happening on August 6, which includes The Women’s Health Fair which is free to the public will Mammogram screenings provided by Mount Sinai (from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Another cool program that the New York Liberty is going to be a part of is that they are going to donate $500 for every for every assist by Courtney Vandersloot throughout the game to 
Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation to raise support and awareness.
