New York Liberty (20-6) has done it again defeating the Los Angeles Sparks (9-17) 79-69 on Tuesday night at the Crypto.com Arena. Liberty is now 2-0 against the Sparks, as the two franchises have one more game left in the three-game matchup. The finale is going to take place in September at Liberty’s in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
“Take care of the ball, play good defense,” Head Coach Sandy Brondello stated would be the keys to the team doing well during the Tuesday morning during the pre-game press conference.
With the team’s victory Coach Brondello became the ninth head coach in WNBA history to reach 200 career wins. Brondello has an incredible resume when it comes time for being a Coach in the W as she led the Phoenix Mercury to a championship in 2014, in addition to being named the Coach of the Year. Her second year as the Head Coach for the NY Liberty is refreshing for the team, as she is bringing out the potential in all the players that are on the roster. With such a talented roster Brondello and the Liberty are in good standings to go all the way to the championship game.
“I love what I do it’s a great opportunity and to be a part of this organization so long especially with great players,” said Brondello.
Tuesday night’s game marks a 20-win season for the NY Liberty. The last time this happened for the team was in 2017. Liberty won ten games back-to-back in the 2017 season after already winning 12 out 12 of the previous games.
Leading the team is Courtney Vandersloot as she scored a season high 23 points on 64.3% (9-14) shooting from the floor to go along with seven rebounds, and six assists. ‘Sloot’ was hurt during the first half of the game and came back in the second half scoring 20 of the 23 the points.

“Catch and shoot was the reason I was able to knock ’em down,” said Vandersloot of her performance.
Another impressive performance for the team came from Breanna Stewart as she finished the game with a double- double for. The double-double is her 13th of the season, and with her performances was named as the Kia WNBA player of the month. ‘Stewie’ continues to make franchise history becoming the first with multiple 40-point games since 2018.
Rounding out the impressive performances is Sabrina Ionescu with a stat line of 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists with Betnijah Laney and Jonquel Jones both scoring nine points each.
As for the Los Angeles Sparks Nneka Ogwumike finished the game with 20 points, 8 rebounds, while Jordin Canada 13 points and six assists.
The New York Liberty continue their road trip in Minnesota as they take on Lynx with a game to be played on Friday August 4, at 8:00 p.m.
