New York City FC II edged out by Huntsville City, 1-0

New York City FC II (8-9-2) was just edged out by Huntsville City (7-8-4) in MLS NEXT Pro action at Belson Stadium on Sunday.

In a thriller of a night action wise it was Huntsville City getting the early tally as Azaad Liadi hit a long range right footed shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner in the 4′.

With all the momentum in their favor the visitors almost doubled things up quickly at the 5′ as Isaiah Johnston just missed his opportunity.

Then the first chance for NYCFC II came around the 24′ on a shot by Matt Myers, going for a left footed shot from the center of the box, that opportunity was saved by Ben Martino of Huntsville City.

John Denis tried for a left footed shot around the 30′ but that was blocked. As Huntsville City had the momentum and the ball they tried once again to double up their lead by an attempt from Kemy Amiche 36′ that just hit the post.

With things getting closer and closer to the Half, NYCFC II and Denis tried a right footed shot at the 40′ that was saved.

As the teams went into the half the score was in favor of Huntsville City.

After a bit of a breather both teams came back to the field, as the visiting side continued their momentum and putting things towards their favor.

Huntsville City continued to try to score their second goal of the match on a missed attempt at the 50′ by Johnston.

It was around the 59′ that Myers tried for a right footed shot from the center of the box, but the Huntsville City defense stood tall and blocked that opportunity.

From there it was all visiting team, up until around the 79′ when Jack Beer had two opportunities that just missed.

At the end of it all it was the visiting side that was able to get themselves the three points, in what was an impressive showing.

There were some positives in terms of what the guys on NYCFC II were able to do on the field today. The guys were able to win in several statistical categories, and that is always a good thing when it comes time for development.

Some of the impressive numbers in terms of stats is the fact that NYCFC II led in possession % 61.8-38.2, in total passes 568-346, in passing accuracy % 86.6-82.4.

Up next the guys at NYCFC II start up the month of August with a trip to Philadelphia to take on the Philadelphia Union II in an MLS NEXT Pro match that is going to take place on August 4. Start time between NYCFC II and Philadelphia Union II is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
