Premier League Summer Series Sizzles as Newcastle defeats Brighton & Hove Albion

After months of anticipation and build up to promote the Summer Series one of the thrilling matches that the Premier League played in America happened on Friday Night, as Newcastle United defeated Brighton & Hove Albion making 2-1 in the match at the Red Bull Arena.

It was in the second half that the scoring got going for both squads starting with one from Brighton & Hove Albion Forward Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck at the 49′ was able to record his second goal of the Summer Series, by finding the back of the net thanks to a right footed shot from the center of the box.

There were lots of action back and forth, but it was the Newcastle side that came roaring back thanks to the brace by Midfielder Elliot Anderson (Goals in the 86′, 90+2′)

Anderson has scored four goals so far during the Premier League Summer series and is looking forward to continuing to score during the next game and beyond. Anderson joined the Newcastle United franchise at the tender age of eight and signed on professionally in 2018. 

Since then he has made 27 appearances with the first team, started in six matches, subbing in for 21, while also having a 61% pass success rating.

Newcastle and Brighton have recently become rivals, as thus far Newcastle has won the last two competitions.

Things have gotten ‘spicy’ as the kids are saying, as there has been a ton of controversy and close matches, and the 2023 edition of the matches between Brighton and Newcastle continued the fine tradition of great play between the two clubs.

As for the Premier League as a whole, there has been a type of great energy surrounding the league as the clubs are touring America for friendlies, and thus far the hype has been very real as close to 200,000 fans have attended the six matches played.

Thus far clubs such as Aston Villa, Brentford, Chelsea and Fulham have all thrilled fans in different locations in the U.S.

In honor of the teams being in the New York Area, the Empire State Building payed homage to the Premier League as they displayed the Summer Series colors blue and purple last night (Friday).

Also in other big news, the Premier League also opened up a Manhattan headquarters last week which help the growth of the U.S clubs. NBC sports the home of the Premier League matches in addition the Premier League new offices are going create more opportunities for new and existing fans to engage with the league. 

Premier Leauge in the Community:

Brighton & Hove Albion managers Roberto De Zerbi and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe along with players from both clubs attended the new pitch opening at Washington Elementary School in Kearny, New Jersey. EA sports partnered with the Premier League providing community access to the world of soccer with customized, hard-court surface named “Kearny Futures Field”. This is the first collaboration between North America Premier League and EA Sports.
