New York Liberty head West after Home loss to Lynx

Friday night at the Barclays Center was the last game of a four game homestand for the New York Liberty (18-6) and fans saw the team’s three-game winning streak get cut off by Minnesota Lynx (12-13) by a final score of 88-83.

New York ran the gauntlet this week with little rest in between, as there is a ton of season left to play this is the time of year when roster management is key. The Liberty saw themselves a new look roster with Courtney Vandersloot, one of the team’s generals got herself a day of rest.

There were some impressive performances, and ones that are going to be vital for the team as the 2023 season progresses. Starting things off with the stat leaders is Sabrina Ionescu with 18 points in the first half of the game and ended with 31 points, seven rebounds and a game high of seven assists.

“If we don’t come from the start and bring our A game, we are going to get beat,” said Ionescu on the lost against the Lynx.

To see what the rest of Sabrina along with Head Coach Sandy Brondello along with Breanna Stewart had to say about the team’s performance fans are encouraged to check out the video below…compliments of the New York Liberty:

Breanna Stewart finished the game with 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Betnijah Laney added 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Jonquel Jones is still on high when it comes to rebounding with 11 rebounds in Friday night’s game.

Fans of the W should tip their caps to Minnesota, as they came ready with a well-balanced gameplan during Friday night’s game. The Lynx built on a 15-point lead during the third quarter, which is one of the biggest leads during the game.

One of the highlights for those that are Lynx fans came when guard Kayla McBride was able to steal the ball from Stewart. McBride finished with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists. Also helping to lead Minnesota is Diamond Miller with her 22 points and five rebounds. Lynx had 40 (20/37) points in the paint and Liberty 24 (12/26).

Up next the New York Liberty head West as they have two games against the Los Angeles Sparks. The first is going to be played on Sunday July 30 at 4PM in Los Angeles. The game will be aired live on ESPN.
