USWNT One Day away from Second Match vs Netherlands

As the United States Women’s National Team continues to train and prepare the excitement around the world once again builds, as the ladies are one day away from their second match in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup versus the Netherlands on Thursday July 27 at Wellington Regional Stadium in Wellington.

With the team currently looking into seeing how the 2023 Netherlands team plays the veterans on the USWNT shared their experiences from matches played in the past, in addition to sharing their experiences from past.

There was a mix of veteran leadership and newer faces in the team’s most recent press conference held on Tuesday, as USWNT sent defender Sofia Huerta and forward Alex Morgan to sit in front of the media and to share how their journey has been thus far.

Morgan’s name is one that is one of the more recognizable ones in the world of women’s soccer, as the forward as made several commercials, including an inspirational one for Dicks’ Sporting Goods Stores, where she shares the journey in becoming the player that she is today.

Alex has played in four FIFA World Cup’s, also had a statue made in her honor during the FOX Network marketing campaign to help promote their coverage of the upcoming tournament, as a resume that any soccer player dreams about.

The list of awards includes being named a part of the FIFA FIFPro Women’s World XI during the 2023, 2022, 2019 seasons, being named to the U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year Award in 2018, the Best Female Athlete ESPY Award in 2018 and the Kid’s Choice Award for Female Sport in 2020.

Whenever there is a clutch moment, Coaches always call upon Morgan to help the team cash that moment in, and the forward continues to help her team succeed. Alex played a big part in the team’s strong start in the 2023 FIFA World Cup, as she recorded an assist in setting up forward Sophia Smith’s first goal in the team’s 3-0 win against Vietnam.

As for Sofia Huerta, she is a name that fans are going to learn all about as the tournament progresses. Sofia hailing from Boise, Idaho played collegiately for the Santa Clara Broncos from 2011 to 2014 and then got drafted by the NWSL.

The first NWSL Team that Huerta played for is the Chicago Red Stars, prior to embarking on a career that included playing time with W-League Club Adelaide United, then back to the NWSL to play for the Houston Dash then back to the W-League to play for Sydney FC.

Currently Huerta plays for the OL Reign, and overall has 152 appearances all-time, as she is one of 17 players in NWSL history to reach 150 regular season games played.

As the team continues to train and prepare the excitement continues to build as the USWNT gets ready to take on Netherlands on Thursday, July 27 at 9:00 p.m. Fans can catch all the action on the FOX Network.
