Washington Mystics rebound in 84-69 victory over Phoenix

There are a ton of emotions that a team goes through during the course of a sports season, for the Washington Mystics (12-10) the team is learning how to deal with the highs and lows of the 2023 WNBA Season.

After back-to-back losses to the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty the ladies were looking to rebound and regain the form that made them one of the top teams in the WNBA.

Thankfully on Sunday afternoon in Washington D.C. they were able to find the winning formula for success, in defeating the Phoenix Mercury (6-16) 84-69.

There were a ton of leaders in terms of the on-court performances as Natasha Cloud tied her season-high with 23 points on 7-11 shooting from the field, 2-5 from three, and 7-8 from the free-throw line.

Cloud also added nine assists, including a touchdown pass that would have made any team in the NFL proud, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

‘Tash’ otherwise known by her friends and fans, getting herself the team’s Hard Hat Player of the game afterwards, is one of those players that instantly brings a great energy, joy and passion whenever she steps on the floor.

In addition, Cloud achieved a few first in the game in becoming the first to score 20+ points, 9+ assists, 3+ steals, and 2+ blocks in a game. Also ‘Tash” was able to have her first career game posting multiple steals and blocks.

Having her 20+ point scoring effort of the season Brittney Sykes filled up the stats sheet with her 23 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal on -16 from the field.

One of the most impressive stats for Sykes is the fact that in over the last six games, she averages 21.7 ppg and that is the seventh highest mark in the league over that span.

Rounding out the scoring is Shatori Walker-Kimbrough as she has 13 points on 5-10 shooting and 2-2 from deep.

Up next for the team is going to be a road trip as the ladies get ready to take on the Minnesota Lynx in the Target Center in WNBA action on Wednesday, July 26. Start of the game between the Mystics and the Lynx is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
