The United States Women’s National Team started the 2023 edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on a strong note, as the ladies’ thrilled fans around the world with their 3-0 victory against Vietnam.

Leading the way in scoring is Sophia Smith and team captain Lindsey Horan, as the USWNT as a whole looked strong playing in front of mostly American Fans in an historic venue in Eden Park.

The ladies got back to training and preparation quickly as on Monday, July 24, the ladies got back to the pitch in Auckland to continue to bond and build their team chemistry.

Things are going to only get tougher as the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup progresses, as each team is going to present a different challenge, the next up for the USWNT is going to be a match against the Netherlands on Thursday, July 27 at Wellington Regional Stadium.

The last time the US and the Dutch played against the other, was during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. That match was in the Finals in Lyon, France.

Thus far the Netherlands opened up their play with a 1-0 victory over Portugal on July 23. Helping to lead the way in the team’s victory is goal scorer Stefanie van der Gragt.

It is going to be interesting to see what the style of play is for each country and what type of adjustments that the USWNT makes as each match week progresses.

After the team’s training on Monday, two of the newer faces to the squad in Naomi Girma and Alyssa Thompson sat and chatted with the media.

Fans are encouraged to hear from Girma and Thompson by checking out the video below…U.S. Soccer/Veritone:

Girma playing on the defense for the USWNT got the started and played the entire match is hopeful to be a big part of the US being able to lock down the other’s team’s offensive attacks.

Naomi hailing from San Jose, California also plays defense for the NWSL team the San Diego Wave, while also having a stellar College career the Standford.

Thus far Girma has herself one heck of a soccer resume, as she is the Number One overall pick of the 2022 NWSL Draft, in addition to representing the U.S. on the under-17, under-19 and under-20 national teams. Thanks to her fine play Naomi was named the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year in 2020.

Also chatting with the media is the only teenager on the roster at 18 years old in Alyssa Thompson. The Forward was able to get her first of what is hopefully to be many minutes with the USWNT, in coming in as a substitute in the 75th Minute.

Thompson plays with the NWSL team Angel City and amazingly enough is a native of Los Angeles, California. Alyssa is going to be one to watch, as she was able to have positive minutes in her first start with Angel City, scoring within five minutes into her debut.

In that match Angel City was going up against Club America of Liga MX Femenil. Thus far she has been named to the NWSL Rookie of the Month, in addition to being a big part of the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship.
