Playing on the road is never an easy feat, as the stars need to align in just the right way in order for a team to see the victory.
For the Washington Mystics (10-8) the stars were not in their favor as they faced a tough 92-84 loss to the Connecticut Sun (14-5) in WNBA action on Sunday.
There was a bit of a scary moment as 2023 WNBA All-Star along with Two-time MVP Elena Delle Donne went off the floor. The Forward-Guard has been dealing with a left ankle sprain tried to return, but then departed after five minutes of play.
The Mystics, having delt with cards like these before, showed the type of star power they have, as Tianna Hawkins, Myisha Hines-Allen and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough all shined.
Mystics fans are encouraged to check out the following video featuring thoughts from Head Coach Eric Thibault, along with Hawkins and Hines-Allen…compliments of the Washington Mystics:
Leading the team in scoring is Hawkins, as she was able to tie a career-high with 24 points. This is the first time that Hawkins has led the team in terms of stats, as the Forward, who has impressed thus far this season with the stuff not seen on the stat sheet has earned the team’s Hard Hat Player of the game.
Also having an impressive showing is Brittney Sykes, with her 14 points, seven assists and three steals. Sykes currently holds the longest active streak in the league with at least one steal.
Getting closer to being etched in the Mystics record books, Ariel Atkins draws herself closer to the most three-point shots made in Mystics history mark. The Guard finishing with her 10 points against the Sun, was able to connect with one three-pointer, as she is now tied with the franchise record.
The amazing thing for Mystics fans is that there is a possibility that the next time Ariel is at the Entertainment and Sports Arena on July 11, that they are going to witness history and see one of the team’s current stars surpass Ivory Latta (308).
Rounding out the impressive performances is Myisha Hines-Allen and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough. Hines-Allen tallied 14 points in the game and was two away from a season high. In addition, there was a milestone moment for Walker-Kimbrough, as with her three-point shot at the beginning of the game put her over 1000 points in her career.
In her second game with the Mystics, Queen Egbo showed her skills in rebounding, as she the team with seven.
The Mystics have themselves an opportunity to rebound and do so in front of their home fans, as the ladies return back to the Washington D.C. area and play host to the Seattle Storm in WNBA action on July 11 in the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Tip time between the Mystics and Storm is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
